A fantastic selection of rare Motown for DJs, collectors and enthusiasts. Berry Gordy's Motown label burst out of Detroit in the early 1960s and shaped pop music from the earliest releases, with Barrett Strong's Money proving to be one of the most durable and widely covered records ever written (by Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson) being famously covered by The Beatles. Many other Motown releases were covered by UK bands circa 1963-66 including The Who and unfortunately in many cases, the inferior UK cover versions became hits in the UK and crowded out any interest in the Motown original. The Tamla Motown label was only formed after Berry Gordy had been convinced by legendary Soul affficianado Dave Godin that there was actually a demand for it over here, and early red and white Tamla Motown demos from the "500 series" (the original Tamla Motown label releases) remain the most highly prized Motown label rare 45s. Motown also single handedly created the soul sound, fusing rhythm and blues with gospel and rock and roll like never before. Motown's commercial success then led to an explosion in copycat recordings that revolutionlised soul music forever and laid the foundations of the northern soul scene of the early 1970s which continues to grow and evolve today.
